History of SILCS

San Isidro Labrador Catholic School of Quezon City was initiated in a brief talk between Rev. Fr. Albert A. Venus and Ms. Marilyn L. Cano. This, however, did not put the project airborne because Fr. Venus was given a new assignment. When the fourth parish priest, Rev. Fr. Jose S. Tupino III, was installed, the project to put up a parochial school was once more revived by Ms. Cano. Fr. Tupino eagerly agreed to immediately start the ground works.

He called for a meeting and he included another parishioner who is equally interested to help. Ms. Sylvia C. Garcia, a very active servant leader of the parish who has proven her dedication by her selfless involvement up to now, was invited to join in succeeding meetings to finalize the project. Thus, the first catholic school in Tandang Sora was born.

A letter to Cardinal Sin was immediately prepared by Fr. Tupino to seek his approval on the project. On January 12, 2001, His Eminence Jaime Cardinal Sin sent his approval. Ms. Cano and Ms. Garcia immediately started to work on the SEC and DECS papers.

Fr. Tupino was designated as the School Director, Ms. Cano as Principal, and Ms. Garcia as Registrar. The function rooms and the formation hall of the Church served as the initial classrooms. With the help of generous educators like Mrs. Gina Serquinia of Ateneo de Manila and Ms. Marissa Verona of St. Paul’s Quezon City who acted as consultants for the principal on academic matters, the school’s academic curriculum was prepared. On June 13, 2001, the school started its first day of classes for preschool children. At the start, there were only thirty-three pupils in the preschool and two faculty members. After a couple of years, SILCS then offered a complete elementary curriculum.

In April 2006, Fr. Albert N. Delvo, the new school director appointed by Most Rev. Antonio R. Tobias, D.D., who succeeded Bishop Teodoro Bacani as Local Ordinary of the Diocese of Novaliches, and Rev. Fr. Marlou Lemaire worked closely together in putting up a new four- storey school building behind the parish Church. This was inaugurated on June 12, 2007 by Bishop Tobias. Funds for this project came from major loans from MAPSA and RCBN, some savings and fund- raising of the school under the stewardship of Ms. Cano & Ms. Garcia and a significant donation of the Sisters of Dorothy under the leadership of Sr. Celia & Sr. Annie. The school now has adequate classrooms, laboratories, and offices and canteen for the convenient use of the students.
